An open gate or broken leash are simple everyday accidents that can separate you from your pet. Sometimes even with ID tags and collars it may take a really long time to be reunited with your lost pet. With a microchip you have a better chance of seeing your pet once again. The procedure doesn’t require any anesthesia and it only takes a couple of minutes. We offer microchipping services at our hospital and encourage you to call us at 613-542-5552 to learn more.
What is microchipping?
Microchipping is the process where we implant a chip between your pet’s shoulder blade underneath their skin. The chip cannot tell the exact location of your pet, but once scanned can give important information about their health and your contact details. Here’s how it works, say your pet strays or gets lost and is found by someone and brought to a shelter. The shelter or veterinary office will use a special scanner to scan behind their neck in search of the microchip. If a chip was implanted the scanner will generate an ID number that is linked to the manufacturer’s database. The database has your contact information to return your pet to you.
Are microchips safe for my pet?
Yes! Microchips are 100% safe for your pet. There are no side effects to having one implanted, it is made to last for a lifetime. Microchipping is included in our spay/neuter package, so we recommend having it done at the same time. It can be done separately as well, so please call us at 613-542-5552 to discuss.
How much does it cost to microchip my pet?
